What kind of cameras were used to photograph old movie stars?

Most of those were photographed with 8x10 and 5x7 view cameras like a deardorf. They were photographed with lenses that were often set at f 22 and had a old nylon stretched over the lens to created softness. They were photographed with Hot Lights instead of strobes
