Detail in stories, and why people think it's equal to being boring?

I love reading, and what I find is that when I want to know what is happening, I'd rather find out by reading characters talk than read pages of description. Sometimes I just skip the describing to see what happens next. Saying that, I tend to miss important parts of stories....!
